How to use this template

Filling in a hoodie tech pack

A hoodie carries roughly 16 points of measure to a tee's 11, because the hood, pouch pocket, and rib trims each need their own numbers. It is also where fabric weight claims get tested: "heavyweight" means nothing on a PO — 400 gsm brushed-back fleece does. The drop shoulder must be dimensioned, not implied by the sketch.

The points of measure that matter

  1. Hood height and hood width: a hood that collapses or balloons is the most visible failure on the garment; spec both, plus the front-edge opening.
  2. Across chest: heavyweight hoodies are relaxed — around a 23" flat chest at M is typical — and grade 1.5–2" per size.
  3. Drop-shoulder offset and sleeve from CB: with a dropped seam, sleeve length is only meaningful measured from center back neck.
  4. Pouch pocket width, height, and hand opening: three numbers; factories routinely shrink pockets to save fabric.
  5. Cuff and bottom rib heights: constant across sizes — mark them non-graded.

Questions the factory will ask

  • Hood construction: 2-panel or 3-panel? Lined or self-lined, and in what fabric?
  • Drawcord and eyelets: metal grommets or embroidered eyelets, cord tipping, and whether kids' safety rules apply in your market.
  • Fleece finish: brushed-back or loopback French terry, and pre-shrunk or not?
  • Kangaroo pocket bag construction and bartack positions at the openings.

Fabric

Standard hoodies run 280–350 gsm fleece; a true heavyweight is 400–500 gsm brushed-back, usually 80/20 or 100% cotton. Ribs at 2x2 with elastane for recovery. Heavier fleece needs a larger needle and looser tension — one more reason the gsm belongs in the BOM, not the product description.

Hoodie tech pack template FAQ

How many measurements does a hoodie tech pack need?

Around 16: the standard body and sleeve set plus hood height, hood width, hood opening, pouch-pocket width, height and hand opening, and cuff and waistband rib heights. The hood and pocket groups are what separate it from a t-shirt spec.

What gsm is a heavyweight hoodie?

Roughly 400–500 gsm brushed-back fleece. Standard hoodies sit around 280–350 gsm. Always write the number — "heavyweight" alone is not enforceable at QC.

How do I spec a drop shoulder correctly?

Dimension the offset — how far the shoulder seam sits down the upper arm from the natural shoulder point — and measure sleeve length from center-back neck to cuff. Shoulder-seam-to-cuff is meaningless once the seam has moved.
