How to use this template

Filling in a crewneck t-shirt tech pack

A t-shirt looks like the simplest tech pack you will ever write, which is exactly why factories see so many bad ones. With only a handful of seams, every measurement carries weight: a half inch on the across-chest is a full fit size, and a collar that is specced without rib height and stretch recovery will come back wavy on the first sample.

Use this template as the starting structure, then replace the graded defaults with measurements taken from a garment that actually fits the way you want yours to.

The points of measure that matter

  1. Across chest: the fit-defining girth — measured 1" below the armhole, flat. Grade it 1.5" per size, widening to 2" above XL.
  2. Body length HPS to hem: drives the silhouette; longline vs regular is decided here, not by the factory.
  3. Across shoulder: seam-to-seam; a tight tolerance (±1/4") because a misplaced shoulder seam is visible instantly.
  4. Neck width and front neck drop: together they define the collar opening — the most complained-about dimension on cheap tees.
  5. Bicep and sleeve opening: the difference between a boxy sleeve and a fitted one lives in these two numbers.

Questions the factory will ask

  • Tubular or side-seamed body? Tubular knits cheaper but cannot be shaped at the waist.
  • Rib specification for the collar — width, gauge (1x1 or 2x2), and whether it is self-fabric or contrast.
  • Shrinkage allowance: are your measurements before or after wash? State it on the POM sheet.
  • Neck construction: back-neck tape, or a clean-finished binding?

Fabric

Standard tees run 100% cotton single jersey at roughly 150–180 gsm; heavyweight and boxy styles go 220–280 gsm. Ring-spun combed cotton prints and wears noticeably better than open-end. If you blend (say 90/10 cotton-elastane), flag it — it changes the care label, the needle, and the price.

Crewneck T-Shirt tech pack template FAQ

What measurements does a t-shirt tech pack need?

Around 11 points of measure: body length, across chest, across shoulder, neck width, front and back neck drop, sleeve length, bicep, sleeve opening, armhole, and bottom sweep — each with a tolerance and graded values across your full size range.

What fabric weight should I spec for a t-shirt?

Typical tees are 150–180 gsm single jersey; premium heavyweight tees run 220–280 gsm. Always state the weight in gsm together with the fiber content and knit type, because "cotton jersey" alone is not a quotable spec.

Can I edit this template for my own t-shirt?

Yes — download the Excel version and change any value, or let the AI Tech Pack Generator fill the whole document, flat sketch included, from a photo of your shirt.
