Filling in a mini skirt tech pack
An A-line skirt is one of the best first woven products: few pieces, fast to sew, but it still exercises every tech pack discipline — darts, facing or waistband choice, zipper insertion, and lining. The flare is geometry: it comes from the sweep-to-waist ratio, and if you do not spec the sweep, you have not specced the skirt.
The points of measure that matter
- Waist and high hip: the fitted zone; tolerance tight (±1/4") because there is no stretch to forgive errors.
- Front length and back length: mini lengths are unforgiving — a half inch reads as a different garment.
- Sweep: the hem circumference against the waist defines the A-line angle.
- Waistband height or facing depth: states which construction you chose; they look different worn.
- Zipper length and position: center back or side seam, invisible or exposed — position plus length.
Questions the factory will ask
- Waist finish: contour waistband, straight band, or internal facing?

Fabric
A-line minis want body: cotton twill or drill at roughly 220–280 gsm, mid-weight denim, corduroy, or a suiting-weight poly-viscose around 250–300 gsm. Anything under ~200 gsm needs interfacing or a lining to hold the A shape. Spec lining (usually 60–80 gsm poly or cupro) as its own BOM row.
