How to use this template

Filling in a boxy tee tech pack

A boxy tee is not a normal tee graded up — it is a different block. The chest is dramatically wider relative to the length, the shoulder drops off the natural shoulder point, and the sleeve is short and wide. If your tech pack does not say this explicitly, the factory will "correct" your proportions back toward a standard block and the sample will lose the whole point of the design.

This template starts from a relaxed block; tune the drop and the length-to-chest ratio to your own sample.

The points of measure that matter

  1. Across chest vs body length: the ratio is the design. A boxy tee often carries a chest measurement close to, or exceeding, its length.
  2. Drop-shoulder offset: note how far the shoulder seam sits below the natural shoulder point — factories cannot infer it from a flat sketch alone.
  3. Sleeve opening: wide and square; specced too small it visually converts the tee back to a regular fit.
  4. Bottom sweep: a true box keeps sweep equal to chest; tapering it changes the silhouette.
  5. Back neck drop: boxy styles often ride back on the body — a slightly deeper back neck keeps the collar seated.

Questions the factory will ask

  • Is the fit oversized on the body chart, or a genuinely separate boxy block? Say which base size the sample represents.
  • Hem finish: standard coverstitch, or a wide 1.5"–2" hem, which boxy styles often use for structure?
  • Should grading hold the boxy ratio (grade length slower than chest) or grade proportionally?

Fabric

Boxy tees usually need weight to hold the shape: 220–280 gsm cotton jersey, often carded or slub for texture. Lighter than ~200 gsm, the square silhouette collapses and drapes like a regular tee. Consider a mock-neck rib collar at 2x1 for a sturdier look.

Boxy Tee tech pack template FAQ

How is a boxy tee tech pack different from a regular t-shirt one?

The proportions and the grading. A boxy tee carries a much wider across-chest relative to body length, a documented drop-shoulder offset, and grading that preserves the square ratio across sizes instead of grading every measurement equally.

What fabric holds a boxy silhouette?

Heavier jersey — typically 220–280 gsm. The structure of the fabric is what keeps the square shape; a 150 gsm jersey cut on a boxy block just looks oversized and limp.

Can I generate a boxy tee tech pack automatically?

Yes — upload a photo of your tee to the AI Tech Pack Generator and it drafts the flat sketch, BOM, and graded measurements for the actual proportions in the image, which you then review and edit.
