What the tech pack contains
How to use this template
Fully-fashioned knitwear is a different manufacturing universe from cut-and-sew: the factory knits your panels to shape, so the tech pack talks in gauge, yarn count, and stitch structure instead of fabric yardage. An intarsia design adds a color-map layer — every color area is knitted in, not printed on — and the artwork must be supplied as a chart the knitting programmer can follow.
There is no "fabric" row — the BOM leads with yarn: lambswool, merino (often 2/28s–2/48s counts), cotton, or acrylic blends for price. A mid-gauge (5–7gg) crewneck is the most versatile starting point. Spec the knit structure per zone: jersey body, 1x1 or 2x2 rib trims, and the intarsia chart as an attached artwork file.
Panels are knitted to shape, so the pack specifies gauge, yarn count and fiber, stitch structures per zone, and linking — not fabric consumption. Measurements are stated after washing and blocking, because knits move during finishing.
A color chart (grid) of the motif, the exact yarn color for each area with Pantone references, the placement anchored from center front and hem, and the total color count — which directly affects the programming cost.
Mid-gauge, around 5–7gg, is the safest start: it reads premium, tolerates a wider yarn range than fine 12gg work, and more factories run it well. Chunky 3gg and fine-gauge knits both narrow your factory pool.
