Backpack tech pack template, filled in start to finish

A backpack tech pack is built around panels, hardware and load points rather than a body block. The factory needs to know the finished shape (height, width and gusset depth), what each panel is cut from, where the weight is carried, and how every strap and handle is anchored. This sample is a camel embossed-suede city backpack with a taupe smooth-leather trim, a curved two-way zip opening, a front box pocket and a padded spacer-mesh back.

One correction before you quote from it: the sample is graded XS to XL, because the generator applied a garment size run to a bag. A backpack is usually one size, or a named small and large. Keep the M column (44 cm high, 31 cm wide, 14 cm gusset) and delete the rest, or set a real second size with its own capacity.

The points of measure that matter

1. Overall height, width and bottom gusset depth: the three numbers that fix capacity and silhouette; measured at center front, at the widest point and across the base.
2. Main zip length along the curved opening: a 55 cm arc decides how wide the bag opens and which zip length the factory buys.
3. Carry handle drop and width: an 8 cm drop and 2.8 cm flat width set how the bag hangs from the hand; small tolerances (±0.2 to ±0.3 cm) because leather handles show every error.
4. Shoulder strap length at minimum and maximum setting: 43 to 82 cm on this sample; state both, since the adjuster range is what fits different bodies.
5. Strap spacing at the top and bottom attachments: 9 cm apart at the top and 14 cm at the base keeps the straps off the neck and square on the back.
6. Front pocket position from the top edge: places the box pocket consistently; 22 cm from the top edge on the sample.

Questions the factory will ask

• One size or two? If two, give each its own height, width, gusset and strap range rather than a graded run.
• Leather: suede cowhide at 1.4 to 1.6 mm for the body and 1.2 to 1.4 mm smooth leather for trims; confirm the tannery, the emboss plate and whether edges are painted, turned or bound.
• Reinforcement: which areas take board or non-woven backing (front panel, base, zip arcs, handle mount) and how thick.
• Load points: how the handle ends and lower strap tabs are anchored (box-X stitch, bartack, rivet) and whether a pull test is required before approval.
• Hardware: zip gauge and slider type (a #8 two-way main zip and a #5 pocket zip here), puller design, plating finish and whether logo letters are applied or embossed.

Fabric

This sample uses a camel embossed suede cowhide (PANTONE 17-1048 TCX) for the body, front pocket and side panels, taupe smooth leather (PANTONE 16-1107 TCX) for the handle, zip welts and base, black 3D spacer mesh over 6 to 8 mm EVA or PU foam on the back and straps, 38 mm nylon herringbone webbing, and a 210D polyester lining. Every one of those is a BOM row with its own thickness, finish and quantity, along with the zips, strap adjusters, logo letters, reinforcement and labels.
